FORENSIC MEDICAL SERVICES
Forensic ̀edical Services have been established in the seat of every Court of Appeal and are responsible for incidents that require forensic medical examination within the Court of Appeal's area of jurisdiction.
Forensic Services operate today in the following cities:
- Athens
- Piraeus
- Patra
- Larisa
- Heraklion
- Komotini
- Syros
- Corfu
- Rhodes
- Kozani
Forensic Medical Services undertake, after they have been ordered by preliminary or judicial investigation authorities, and examine the following incidents (of all kinds):
- Violent deaths, whether homicide (murder ex premeditation or by negligence), vehicular or labour accidents, home accidents, poisonings or suicides.
- Sudden deaths
- Death occurring in detainment facilities, detention houses, retirement homes, special hospital institutions, etc.
- Injuries, and a wide range of incidents of penal interest.
- Sexual offences
- Drug-related offences as provided for by current legislation.
