Eurojust
 
Eurojust is an organization of judicial cooperation which was created in order to provide a high level of security in the area of freedom, security and justice. It was established at the Tampere European Council (15-16 October 1999), with the aim to improve the fight against serious crime, through facilitating the coordination of the action for investigations and prosecutions, of more than one Member-States with full respect of human rights and freedoms.
 
Eurojust is the first permanent organization which establishes for the judicial cooperation in the european “legal area” and is funded by the general budget of the EU and being supervised by an independent Common Supervising Instrument which certifies that the processing of personal data is in accordance with the Decision establishes Eurojust.
 
Eurojust is consisted of a national member from each Member States which is being seconded according to his/her national legislation and he/she is prosecutor, judge or police officer.
 
Eurojust inititiates and improves the coordination of the investigations and prosecutions between the competent authorities of the Member States and improves their cooperation, especially by facilitating the execution of international requests of mutual legal assistance and the execution of the requests of extradition.
 
Eurojust supports with all possible way the competent authorities of the Member-States, aiming to more effective investigations and prosecutions against transnational crime.
 
After the request by a Member State, Eurojust may contribute to the investigations and prosecutions which refer to this Member State, as well as another third country, if there is an agreement of cooperation or if there is a substantial interest in offering such an assistance.
 
Eurojust’s competence covers all kind of crime and offences, such as terrorism, drug and human trafficking, forgery, money laundering, cyber crime, corruption financial offences against the EU interests, crimes against environment and the participation in criminal organizations and other kind of offences, after the request of a Member State.
