The Hellenic legislation was adjusted to the Directive 2004/80/EC of the Council of the European Union of 29 April 2004 with Law 3811/2009 “Compensation to violent crime victims and other provisions”.
Law 3811/2009 “Compensation to violent crime victims and other provisions” and Ministerial Decree 27787/2010 as amended, established The Hellenic Compensation Authority.
The Hellenic Compensation Authority resolves on the request for compensation, of victims of violent crimes, committed in the territory of Greece.The compensation covers the medical expenses and hospitalization costs, the loss of income for a reasonable period and the funeral expenses.
The request are accepted exclusively in the Greek language and submitted in special forms. The relevant forms are available at the premises of the Ministry of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights and on line at the Ministry’s web site: "Application Form"
The completed forms should be submitted to the Secretary of the Hellenic Compensation Authority, Mr Vlasios Rigopoulos, Ministry of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights, 96 Mesogeion Avenue, Athens 115 27, Greece, office 236, telephone: +30 210 7767 088, e-mail: vrigopoulos@justice.gov.gr. The request is dismissed in case the payment receipt of a required fee of one hundred (100) euros is not submitted to the Compensation Authority prior to the examination of the request.
